Future of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
There has been tremendous growth in the virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies in recent years. The impact of these technologies was felt mostly in the entertainment industry at the beginning. But soon their application spread to other industries as well.
Apart from creating games and making movies, VR and AR are now used in the medical, automotive, construction, and education sectors. Over the years, the network speed has increased and devices got better which has helped to provide a better VR and AR experience to the users. Though we have already seen much progress in this field already, it is still worth looking at the future of VR and AR.
VR is thought to have a huge impact on the workplace. The COVID situation has pushed most employees to work from home and it is seen that working remotely doesn’t affect work and you can be as productive as working from the office. However, some people prefer the office environment. VR can help to create a virtual office environment and let people work in that environment. So, people can actually work remotely but still be in office space.
Another advantage of virtual office space is that you can change the decoration of the office from time to time and this will act as a huge emotional boost for the workers. With the cost of office space soaring, virtual office space does seem very promising and cost-effective.
AR can also improve the work experience. The office space is always packed with cabinets and files containing lots of information. It is possible to link information to specific people and time frames with the help of AR. Having AR glasses will let you enter your office after checking your ID automatically. You will get a reminder of the tasks you have in hand or meetings you must attend immediately after entering your office with the help of AR glasses.
The VR headset we have now is big; some even come with a backpack and lots of controls. Many people will feel uncomfortable wearing it. In the future, we will have simpler and lighter headsets that will feel to nothing when wearing. AR devices will also get more sophisticated. The user experience with VR and AR will be enhanced many times with improvement in technology in the future.
VR and AR will provide a better healthcare service in the future. Surgeons can already perform surgery in a virtual environment today, but in the future, the experience will be even better. AR headsets will be available for the doctor to perform surgery from a remote location.
VR and AR will bring vast changes to the automotive industry as well. Car manufacturers can use virtual reality to create models of their cars without using actual materials. That way they can redesign the car as many times as possible before deciding on the final model before the production stage. BMW has already incorporated VR in its manufacturing plants. In the future, other car manufacturers will do the same.
AR can become a part of the self-service package of cars. Using AR the car owner will be able to configure certain wiring of the car or change the washer fluid of the windshield. You won’t have to go to the mechanic for simple car-related issues.
Both VR and AR markets are booming; however, the AR market is expected to achieve the lion’s share by 2023. Researchers are focusing on these technologies to achieve new heights of innovation in the technology sector.
